I compiled a list of local resources for my expectant mamas in Winston Salem and the surrounding Triad areas of NC. My hope is that this helps you navigate your pregnancy a little bit easier as you are deciding who to seek out for support throughout your pregnancy, delivery, and postpartum journey. Whether you are a first time mom or a seasoned mom, I hope this provides you with some guidance! Some of these are from personal experience (I have worked in the OB world locally for 10 years and am very familiar with most all of the options in town, and others are recommendations coming from very trusted sources). As a Winston Salem, NC Newborn photographer, I like often walk through pregnancy and postpartum with my clients! I love when I am able direct them to other resources in town that I know and trust to provide the best care.
So if you are in the triad area, here are some resources for you:
Novant Health Forsyth Medical Center: I personally worked here for almost 10 years in the womens center at forsyth and have nothing but good things to say. Forsyth is known for providing high-risk pregnancy care and having a level III NICU ensures top-level care for newborns with complex medical needs. I delivered all of my babies here and feel very safe and trusted. They have updated rooms with tubs if you prefer to labor in the water as a bonus 😉
Wake Forest Baptist Health: Baptist has been delivering babies for a few years now. I know they have really nice rooms which people seem to love! They also take high risk pregnancies and have a level IV NICU. This is where you would go if your baby needed surgery after delivery. What I would say is that if you do not want residents involved in your care, I would recommend you deliver elsewhere. Another thing to consider if who your OB provider is. A Novant provider is not going to deliver here, and a private practice is not in house 24-7 at wake. Just some things to keep in mind.
If you prefer a more natural delivery- you may want to consider somewhere like natural beginning birth center.
Piedmont Doulas: Many women in Winston-Salem are opting for doula-assisted births, and Piedmont Doulas offers expert care to support families through labor and delivery, as well as postpartum care. Their services complement hospital or home birth plans, providing physical, emotional, and informational support.
Heritage Birth Services: “At Holistic Heritage Birth Services, our vision is to be the trusted companion and guiding light for expectant families throughout their transformative birth journey. We strive to create a nurturing environment where each client feels fully supported and empowered, regardless of their chosen birth setting. Through our comprehensive range of services, including birth doula support, childbirth education, postpartum care, and more, we aim to provide holistic and personalized care that honors the sacredness of birth and enriches the lives of our clients.” Quote from their site
Novant Health Childbirth Classes: Novant Health offers a variety of prenatal classes, including childbirth preparation, breastfeeding basics, and newborn care. Their classes are offered both in-person and online, making them convenient for all schedules.
Village Birth Circle: This community resource offers natural childbirth education classes, focused on non-medical pain relief techniques such as breathing exercises and relaxation. They provide options for those planning both home and hospital births.
The Lactation Consultants at Forsyth Medical Center: Novant Health Forsyth Medical Center provides access to board-certified lactation consultants who offer hands-on support, help with latch issues, and advice on milk supply.
Breastfeeding Support Group: Held weekly at Wake Forest Baptist Health, this support group is open to all nursing mothers, offering a space for sharing experiences and getting advice from lactation experts and peers.
Lollies lactation: This private practice in Winston-Salem provides one-on-one support through in-home consultations and virtual visits. Their goal is to provide tailored support to help mothers meet their breastfeeding goals.
Triad Moms on Main: This online community connects local moms with events, support groups, and resources in the Winston-Salem area. Their website also offers helpful blog posts on everything from sleep training to postpartum recovery.
Prenatal and Postpartum counseling: Reynolds Counseling would be my recommendation. I know multiple people who have used Lindsay and I have heard nothing but wonderful things! She is an LCSC and states: “I enjoy working with individuals going through life’s transitions, whether that’s young adulthood, parenthood, or other phases of life. As a perinatal mental health specialist, I am passionate about working with those in the perinatal period.”
Birth photographers: Me of course! On occasion that is. I also would recommend Ashley Fermo and Abigail Will (home births only).
Chiropractor: village family chiropractic
Pelvic floor therapy: Taylor PT and Wellness
